Opportunity Gap

The opportunity gap between Black and Brown students and their White counterparts has been and still is unproportionate and needs substantial change. I am personally very passionate and connected about this issue as I was in a organization called Minority Scholars Program (MSP). Inside this program bridging the opportunity gap in public schools was our main goal. In simple terms, the opportunity gap describes how uncontrollable life factors, such as family circumstances, economic status, language, and race, can lead to poorer success rates in terms of success in schools in this case as well as employment opportunity, and other life goals.

The opportunity gap can apply to a lot but if we don't break the chains it has on POCs and minorities. Not only will they be losing jobs, but they will be at a lack of resources to achieve at school. Implementing restorative justice practices, mental health officers, and lot more representation in schools could be a huge help. The opportunity gap isn't going away it just being swept under the rug. At the end of the day solving this problem isn't about me or you it is about the collective.
